The countless billions of human soldiers who form the ranks of the Astra Militarum defend the Imperium of Man from swarms of enemies bent on its destruction. Despite all that is set against them the Imperial Guard, as they are otherwise known, use deadly war machines and rely on the courage of their guardsmen to shield humanity.
The primary fighting force of the Imperium, the Astra Militarum is so numerous in size that no one can place a figure on the number of Guardsmen filling its ranks. The lists of new recruits and toll of casualties can run into the millions in a single day. It would be unfeasible trying to put an exact number on the strength of the Guard; however, it is believed that there must be many billions of Guardsmen, divided into millions of regiments. This absolute numeracy provides the Guard with its main power; their ability to deploy in superior numbers that, eventually, result in victory. Attacking in seemingly endless influxes across battle-zones, charging forth under the cover of massive barrages and delivering massed Lasgun volleys, in the Guard the individual Human soldier may appear a lost thing, almost forgotten. Yet the actions of these anonymous soldiers daily decide the fate of worlds. In times of crisis, the Imperial Guard will call upon their deadliest of soldiers, whether they are the Imperium's famed Storm Troopers or the regimental elite Kasrkin and Grenadiers.
Commanding the brave of Cadia these veteran commanders inspire their soldiers to push on to the end.

The Tyranids, also known as The Great Devourer are a race of insect-like creatures that are alien to the Milky Way Galaxy. No one knows where they originate from but it is known that their sole purpose is the consumption of all forms of genetic and biological material in order to evolve and reproduce. It is theorised that they have consumed one thousand galaxies and are responsible for the annihilation of millions of intelligent species. Tyranid technology is based entirely on biological engineering, every function from warfare to space flight is carried out by living, specially engineered creatures. Every Tyranid creature collectively forms the Hive Fleet, which is controlled and directed by a single Hive Mind.
Tyranids are seen as one of the gravest threats to the entire Galaxy. They seek only to consume all organic life and they cannot be reasoned or bargained with or deterred in this singular quest. Worse still for the Galaxy, thus far the Tyranid Hive Fleets that have been encountered are merely the furthest stretched tendril of the main invasion fleet that is still travelling in the void of space. When the main fleet emerges from the void, it is unknown if any race will be able to stand against them.
The Parasite Of Mortrex is a deadly close combat threat. It can also infect foes that it leaves alive so that Ripper Swarms can burst forth from their flesh and start devouring those nearby. It's a good thing that the Combat Patrol comes with a few swarms that could be used for just such a purpose.

Daemons of Chaos are entities of the Warp and servants of the Gods of Chaos. They are created at the whim of a Chaos god from a fraction of the god's own power and act as an extension of their will. A daemon's appearance and character reflect the god's own nature. These daemons may be reabsorbed into the god at whim. Being an entity of the Warp a daemon cannot exist for long periods of time in real space, any more than a mortal could survive unprotected in warp space. Daemons can be fought in a physical sense whilst in real space but are rarely killed, more frequently they are banished back into the demonic realms to fester and brood until their next chance into realspace presents itself.
In the Mortal Realms, the followers of the Chaos God Nurgle are a fearsome sight. Rewarded for their loyal service with gifts from their demonic patron, their bodies are bloated and plague-ridden. Often suffering disfigured by disease and mutation, sprouting extra mouths, eyes and limbs. Harbouring a multitude of diseases and plagues, their deformed bodies fuse with armour and nerve endings rot-away. Of all the forces of Chaos, the Maggotkin of Nurgle are some of the hardest to destroy.
The Lord of Blights is a deadly combatant and a fantastic addition to any Nurgle army.

The Death Guard are the chosen instruments of Nurgle, Chaos God of despair and decay, and one of the nine Traitor Legions that betrayed the Emperor during the Horus Heresy. Formerly known as the Dusk Raiders, the XIV Legion were rechristened the Death Guard when they were united with their Primarch Mortarion during the Great Crusade.
The Death Guard takes great pride in their resistance to poisons, disease, and mortality in general. Even prior to their fall into treachery the Death Guard were famous for their resilience and attrition warfare tactics. This resilience was further augmented by the touch of Nurgle that frees them from the burden of pain, their nerve endings long since rotted away.
The Death Guard march to war accompanied by various other minions of Nurgle. Droning daemon engines skim ahead of the main Death Guard advance while mobile artillery tanks crawl along behind. Infected civilians, touched by Nurgle’s gifts shamble towards the enemy lines as daemons manifest from the pools of effluent left in their wake. At the head of the foul menagerie, borne aloft on tattered wings, is Nurgle’s angel, the fallen daemon Primarch Mortarion.
With the breaching of the Cadian Gate and the occurrence of the great rift, the Death Guard march forth from the Plague Planet once more, treading upon Imperial soil despoiling the ground and spreading Nurgle’s bountiful gifts to an ungrateful Imperium.
